MapStream for Schools provides access to a single stack of up-to-date Ordnance Survey digital mapping for the whole of Great Britain including OS MasterMap® the most detailed mapping available and digital versions of renowned paper maps such as the 1:50 000 scale OS Landranger map and the 1:25 000 scale OS Explorer map.
I could not believe my eyes when I first saw EDINA's MapStream for Schools OS maps load up in beautiful 3D in Google Earth. What a great way to bring OS maps to life with my students. My students really began understanding contours and how the real world translates into maps after using this. I also stream the maps easily into ArcGIS online and use it to link to all kinds of topics and as a detailed base map to display fieldwork data. One the greatest features is the ability to zoom down to MasterMap scale and see every building marked out when conducting urban studies. The EDINA support staff are really helpful if you have any questions about getting it set up. An inexpensive and invaluable geography resource for schools.

We have been able to use Mapstream to layer open data on top of OS maps. This has included adding flood risk and warning areas from the Environment Agency on to a local river valley, allowing students to assess the threat to buldings and infrastructure. The power and immediacy of this is a real spur to further investigation. Students and teachers access Mapstream through QGIS.
